Manchester was transformed with the use of canals and steam-powered cotton mills. Changing it from a small disease infested town into a very large disease infested industrial city. All the changes happened in the 1760s, with the first opening of the Bridgewater Canal that runs between Manchester and the coal mines at Worsley in 1763, and when Richard Arkwright patented the super cotton mill in 1769. Every thing changed in Manchester, and so did the world and it would never be the same again. The canal was extended to Liverpool and then to the open sea in 1776, Manchester – now dubbed with a new name ‘Cottonopolis’.
And with all this history you can bet there is plenty to see, so a great place for a Vacation Holiday or city break.
